YANMAR are making waves in the waterways of Venice, with the first installation of an engine for Matteo Tiepolato and his traditional wooden taxi boat “Aquamarina”. (YPT) a group company of Yanmar Holdings Co., Ltd. will start offering its proprietary selective catalytic reduction (SCR) exhaust gas purification system (*1) with connected functionality and dedicated management app from mid-May. Ships at sea generally do not have a well-developed IT environment, and reducing the time spent on onboard management can be a challenge. YPT is working to improve onboard efficiency by developing a system that provides connectivity using smartphones. The control panel of the SCR system developed by YPT has a USB port that can be used to connect it to a smartphone, allowing onboard information to be stored in the cloud through a dedicated application. The app also makes it possible to check performance diagnosis results and maintenance timing notifications even in shipboard environments without internet access.

A groundbreaking research vessel that is making waves as it embarks on its scientific mission, the e-Work 2390 Survey from Finnish boatbuilder, Kewatec Aluboat, was commissioned by the Geological Survey of Norway (NGU) to study the seabeds and fjords around Norway. NGU's director, May Britt Myhr, christened the vessel “Geologen” by throwing seawater over her at a ceremony held in Trondheim, Norway.

The Yanmar decision by owner Simon Millar was to ensure MV Bubbles’ engines could keep up with hard-working days, in and out of whale watching season.

The newest Geological Survey of Norway vessel is currently under construction at the Kewatec shipyard in Porvoo, Finland. Named Geologen, she’s destined for a life of study in Norwegian waters, and she’s now at the hull construction stage. She’s 24 metres long, 6 metres wide, and she’s equipped with a novel hybrid drive. Top speed is 18 knots.
